Welcome to the online gallery of my recent clay sculpture. I hope you will take the time to write with questions, comments or for more information.

Artist Statement

One of my earliest pleasures was storytelling. I can hardly remember a time when I wasn't scribbling in journals, creating fantastic worlds and odd characters. When I began creating figures in clay I discovered I wanted to begin a story that my viewer could complete.

I begin all the faces exactly the same way and in the course of their creation personalities emerge that are quite their own. During multiple firings and layering of clay "paints" their stories continue to unfold and change. These pieces challenge the viewers to write their own stories, as they challenge me to allow the pieces to speak for themselves.

The pieces are narrative, yet enigmatic. I am often asked where they come from. I have my answer. It is unimportant. Once the figures are completed, I leave it to the viewer to see what they will.

I was once a storyteller and in the process of becoming an artist I have become a listener.
